Camp Staff

Visiting Faculty

A diverse faculty of outstanding women business owners provides real world experience and perspective. In previous years, business owners and leaders have shared their own stories and expertise. This impressive list has included:

Brandy Cruthird – Owner of Body by Brandy

Syndi Seid – Founder of Advanced Etiquette

Alyce Chasse – CEO of Emergency Planning International

Powerful role models like Teri Cavanagh of FleetBoston Financial and Kimbyl Edwards of Zen Again, have coached the business plan teams and formed a valuable network for support.

Field Trips

Field trips to women-owned businesses give participants a first-hand view of diverse businesses. Past visits have included shopping at Birkenstock, USA, North American distributor of the distinctive German footwear; lunching at HattieÍs Restaurant, known for its excellent cuisine; visiting Catherine Hinds Corporation, synonymous with skin care and esthetics; and scaling the climbing wall at Clif Bar, maker of natural energy bars.

Counselors & Staff

Camp $tart-Up directors and counselors are mature adults with experience in varied work environments, academic training in business, and expertise in working with young women. Past counselors have included graduates from top MBA and other academic programs, entrepreneurs, and leaders from girl-serving organizations.

Staff Training

All counselors participate in an intensive pre-camp orientation and training to acquaint them with IMIÍs mission, philosophy, and approach to entrepreneurial education. IMI staff provide a thorough introduction to the Camp curriculum, policies, and materials.

On-going supervision and feedback from the director and staff ensure that each counselor has the resources she needs to give excellent instruction, guidance, and support to each participant.

Supervision

We maintain a one-to-six counselor-to-participant ratio at Camp $tart-Up. Counselors reside in the dorms with the participants and are on call 24 hours a day. The small size of the teams ensures that each participant receives individual support, guidance, and mentoring from counselors and staff.
